The Future of Banking – A High-Level Roundtable by AAB with McKinsey & Company in Tirana

On 3 March, in Tirana, the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) in cooperation with McKinsey & Company, organized the workshop titled “Global Banking Roundtable in Albania.”

The event brought together representatives from 11 commercial banks operating in Albania, including senior professionals from risk, payments, finance, operations, retail, and corporate banking departments, as well as the CEOs of the banks. The roundtable created a high-level platform for discussion on the key challenges and emerging directions shaping the banking sector. Representatives from the Kosovo Banking Association were also in attendance.

Experts from McKinsey and Finalta – Tomislav Cvetko, Alexander Kergozou, and Matea Kocevska – delivered in-depth insights into key financial indicators in banking, analyzing regional variances and their impact on bank performance. A particular focus was placed on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in banking and how technology should be strategically directed to unlock real, measurable impact.

Discussions also addressed the sustainability of peak cash flow and long-term performance, as well as the enhancement of customer experience, moving from broad segmentation toward truly personalized customer understanding and a tailored value proposition.

At the core of the workshop was the strategic remodeling of the business model: how banks can transform to become more precise and efficient, where to identify inorganic growth opportunities, and how to effectively compete with digital banks and neobanks in an increasingly dynamic market.

An open, practical, and forward-looking discussion on the future of banking, highly relevant for Albania as well.
