May – International Internal Audit Awareness Month

Globally recognized as Internal Audit Awareness Month, May highlights the indispensable role this profession plays in safeguarding and strengthening the financial system.

Internal auditors play a key role in ensuring integrity and transparency in the banking sector.
In this context, AAB launched an initiative to promote the role and importance of internal auditing among emerging professionals through open lectures held at two universities in the country:

  • “Ismail Qemali” University – Vlora
  • “Epoka” University – Tirana

The lectures were conducted with the active participation of Master’s students and focused on key topics related to the internal auditing profession, including:

  • The strategic role of internal auditing in the banking sector
  • The differences between internal and external auditing
  • The challenges the profession entails, along with the integrity and courage it demands
  • Opportunities for professional development through practice and internships

The guest speakers were members of AAB’s Audit Committee and heads of Internal Audit Departments at several second-tier banks in Albania:

  • Ediola Biçaku – Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania
  • Dorina Marku – FiBank Albania
  • Laura Mile – ProCredit Bank
  • Evis Eskiu – UBA Bank

These activities acted as a valuable link between academia and the banking sector, providing students with direct insight into a profession that requires commitment, integrity, and critical thinking.

The initiative was met with strong interest from participants, who actively engaged through questions and discussions, and found inspiration to explore potential careers in internal auditing.
