AAB strengthens cooperation with Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung for the development of the financial sector in Albania

On 13 March 2026, the signing ceremony of two strategic agreements between German and Albanian financial institutions took place at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tirana. The ceremony marked an important step in strengthening international cooperation and was held under the auspices of the German Embassy, with the participation of senior representatives from the Albanian and German banking sectors.
During the ceremony, the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) signed a Cooperation Agreement with DSIK Albania, further strengthening its role in supporting Albanian banks in aligning with European Union regulatory standards and the supervisory requirements of the Bank of Albania. This cooperation also provides new opportunities in the areas of financial education, training, consultancy, and institutional support.
The President of AAB, Mr. Bledar Shella, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that this cooperation represents an important addition to the Association’s work on financial education, training, consultancy, and support in the implementation of EU legislation that Albania is adopting.
The ceremony also featured remarks by H.E. Karl Bergner, Ambassador of Germany to Albania; Mr. Niclaus Bergmann, Managing Director of DSIK; Mr. Dietmar Tacke, CEO of Sparkasse Märkisches Sauerland Hemer-Menden; and Mr. Deniz Deralla, Head of the Supervision Department at the Bank of Albania.
This cooperation is implemented within the framework of the Sparkassenstiftung regional project “Just Transition: Sustainable Transformation of the Financial Sector in Albania” and aims to strengthen inclusive and resilient financial systems, enhance institutional capacities, and promote financial education through exchanges between German and Albanian institutions.
