PUBLIC NOTICE ON FRAUDULENT PHONE CALLS MADE THROUGH VOIP TECHNOLOGY

The Albanian Association of Banks would like to inform the public about several recent cases of fraudulent phone calls carried out through VOIP technology (internet-based phone calls).
In recent days, cases have been reported of calls originating from addresses with suffixes such as “@gmail” or other platforms, where the name of a bank is used. During the call, the bank’s name or logo may appear on the screen, creating the impression that the call is coming from the bank, while in fact it is an attempt at fraud.
These types of calls are made through the internet, and the true identity of the caller cannot be verified through such addresses (e.g., @gmail, @instagram, or other platforms).
During these calls, the individuals may communicate in different languages and may request bank card details or other personal information, claiming that it is necessary to stop suspicious transactions allegedly made with your card.
The Albanian Association of Banks reminds customers that:
- Banks in Albania will never ask for bank card details, PIN numbers, security codes, or any other confidential information over the phone.
• If you receive a suspicious call, do not share any personal information and immediately end the call.
• Verify any communication by contacting your bank only through the official numbers published by the bank.
• Immediately report any suspicious case to your bank.
The Albanian Association of Banks and its member banks remain committed to raising awareness and protecting customers from attempts of financial fraud.
