The Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) in cooperation with the Bank of Albania, the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency, and other partners celebrates Money Week 2024 from March 18-24, under the slogan “Protect your money, secure your future!”.

The opening ceremony of Money Week was held at the premises of the Bank of Albania on March 18, 2024. The event was attended by Mr. Gent Sejko, Governor of the Bank of Albania; Mrs. Ogerta Manastirliu, Minister of Education and Sports; and Mr. Bledar Shella, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Albanian Association of Banks.
During his speech Mr. Shella, AAB Chairman, emphasized the involvement of AAB and banks in joint initiatives and projects and expressed further support for any joint initiative that will contribute to the enhancement of knowledge in money and finance, with priority given to educating new generations. In addition to supporting organized activities and the participation of banking experts in open lectures, Mr. Shella also mentioned the Money Quiz, another initiative and a special project of AAB in collaboration with the Bank of Albania and the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency, with the endorsement of the Ministry of Education and Sports. The national final will take place on March 20, 2024, with the participation of around 900 students. The winners will represent Albania in the final of the European Money Quiz organized by the European Banking Federation on April 19 in Brussels.
The event proceeded with the award ceremony for the winners of the 5 competitions organized by the Bank of Albania and the Albanian Association of Banks as part of Money Week, previously announced. Member banks of AAB supported these competitions.
- The “Best Drawing” competition, where over 350 drawings were submitted for competition by 3rd-grade students from more than 80 9-year schools across Albania. ABI Bank supported the competition.
- The “Best Project” competition, with a total of 78 projects presented in the competition, was carried out by approximately 2,300 students from 50 9-year schools in the country. Credins Bank supported the competition.
- The “Best Photomontage” competition, featuring 76 photomontages made by students from 40 9-year schools nationwide. Raiffeisen Bank supported the competition.
- The “Best Video” contest, in which 45 videos were presented by 75 students from 27 secondary schools in the country. Union Bank supported the competition.
- The “Best Essay”. In total, 10 essays were presented in the competition, created by students from 7 public and private universities in the country. The Banka Kombëtare Tregtare supported the competition.
The national final of Money Quiz 2024 occurred on March 20, 2024. Organized by the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) in collaboration with the Bank of Albania and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency (ASD), the event attracted the participation of 1010 students aged 13-15 from 98 schools from across the country, who competed using the online Kahoot! web platform.
The students were welcomed by Mr. Genci Mamani, General Director of the Deposit Insurance Agency, Mr. Altin Tanku, Director of the Research Department at the Bank of Albania, and Mr. Spiro Brumbulli, AAB Secretary General.
Following the conclusion of the Quiz, the winning teams were announced:
- The national champions of the Money Quiz 2024 are from the “Imelda Lambertini” 9-year school in Elbasan. Represented by the 8th-grade students: Edea Blaceri and Martin Leci.
- Second place went to the team from “Sotir Gurra” school in Korça, represented by 9th grade students: Grejsi Spaho and Gabriela Gazi.
- The third-place team came from the “Imelda Lambertini” 9-year school in Elbasan, with 8th-grade students: Alen Madhi and Joel Mima.
Special appreciation was extended to teachers Mr. Albin Malelli and Mrs. Mitiana Trugu for their invaluable support in organizing and guiding the teams.
The first-place winners will represent Albania in the European Money Quiz finals, scheduled for April 18- 19, 2024, in Brussels. Prices will be awarded by the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency (ASD) and the Bank of Albania.
As part of Money Week 2024, AAB and its partners organized a series of open lectures at schools and universities. These lectures focused on various aspects of financial literacy, including savings, safe internet practices, cyber threats, deposit insurance schemes, digitalization, open banking, and the latest trends in the banking sector.
- Experts from member banks and representatives from the Bank of Albania, delivered a presentation on “National Currency and Digital Security” to fifth-grade students in 16 elementary schools and 3 high schools, engaging nearly 900 students.
- Additionally, were organized open lectures at various universities, reaching over 850 students from 13 universities in Albania. These lectures covered topics such as cyber techniques and securing sensitive information, safe internet practices and cyber threats like phishing and data theft, the deposit insurance scheme and compensation process in our country, the banking sector’s current situation, challenges, and opportunities, how to identify financial fraud, the importance of personal data protection, finance in a knowledge-based economy, developments in the financial market and the challenges of financial education, operations in the interbank money market and the foreign exchange market, climate change and sustainable finance, and financial education as a key to maximizing benefits from innovations in the payment system.
AAB re-launched and promoted a short video, produced in partnership with VISA, across all its social media platforms. The video focused on key cybersecurity topics, particularly how to recognize phishing attempts, aimed at empowering individuals to safeguard their personal and professional digital assets.
Additionally, during Money Week, AAB and the Bank of Albania actively engaged with seven major TV channels to raise public awareness about the importance of financial education and the risks of online fraud.
