COELA and the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU in Tirana

On October 10, 2025, COELA – the Working Party on Enlargement and Accession Negotiations of the EU Council, accompanied by representatives of the Danish Presidency of the EU Council, held a meeting with Albanian institutions that play a key role in the country’s EU accession process.
As part of this discussion panel, the Secretary General of the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB), Mr. Spiro Brumbulli, presented an overview of reforms and developments in the Albanian banking sector, highlighting progress in digitalization, support for the economy, and future challenges for the sector’s stability and sustainable growth.
Mr. Brumbulli also emphasized the importance of reducing the use of cash, strengthening alternative payment channels, and combating the informal economy as key steps toward building a transparent, sustainable, and development-oriented economy.
The meeting underscored the European Union’s continued commitment to supporting Albania’s progress toward accession, recognizing tangible reforms and their effective implementation.
