October – Cybersecurity Awareness Month: AAB Hosts Open Lectures for Students

Throughout October – Cybersecurity Awareness Month – the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) organized a series of open lectures in collaboration with higher education institutions in Albania, including Metropolitan University, Western Balkans University, and Epoka University. The lectures aimed to raise awareness among young people about digital threats and to promote safe practices for managing personal information and financial data.

Key topics covered during the activities included the most common types of cyberattacks in the banking sector and everyday internet use, the importance of internal security policies and effective incident management, best practices for protecting personal and financial data, as well as the role of individual responsibility and user awareness in reducing cyber risks.

At Metropolitan University, approximately 80 students enrolled in Computer Engineering and Software Engineering programs attended an interactive presentation by Mr. Ermal Galo, member of the AAB Cyber Emergency Task Force and Information Security Manager at Union Bank. He discussed the importance of information security and best practices for protecting personal and financial data, providing practical examples for everyday internet use.

Western Balkans University engaged around 120 students from the Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Medicine programs, where Mr. Fatjon Muça, member of the AAB Cyber Emergency Task Force and Director of the Cybersecurity Department at FIBank Albania, shared practical experiences regarding the most common cyberattacks, methods for early threat detection, and the importance of coordinated responses to incidents. He also emphasized that user awareness and individual responsibility are essential for mitigating cyber risk.

Speakers at Epoka University included Mr. Reglendi Xhango, Chairman of the AAB Cyber Emergency Task Force and Director of the Security Department at OTP Bank, and Ms. Entela Prifti, member of the same committee and Head of the Security Division at Raiffeisen Bank. They shared professional insights on the risks facing the financial sector. Their presentation was attended by approximately 70 master’s students in Fintech, Finance–Banking, and Economics programs.

Students from all three universities actively participated in discussions on concrete cases, demonstrating strong interest in the latest challenges and developments in cybersecurity and financial education.
