On September 22, 2025, the Supervisory Board of AAB held a working meeting with the Bank of Albania, chaired by the Governor, Mr. Gent Sejko.
Discussions focused on the latest developments in the payment system, the digitalization of banking services, the promotion of electronic payments, and the launch of cross-border payments through SEPA schemes on October 7, 2025. Matters related to banking supervision and credit growth were also addressed, along with aspects of banking activity and the regulatory framework required in the context of the country’s accession to the EU, as well as strengthening communication in the framework of transparency and financial education.
Governor Sejko commended the progress achieved in the field of digital payments and emphasized that the transition towards an economy less dependent on cash brings multiple benefits, such as the formalization of economic activities, reduction of tax evasion, improved security of transactions, and lower cash management costs.
AAB values the ongoing dialogue with the Bank of Albania and highlights the commitment of its member banks to support economic development through increasingly innovative financial solutions for businesses and individuals, contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive economy, with the banking industry as a frontrunner in digital transformation.
