On October 1, 2019, at the Bank of Albania premises, the fifth meeting of the National Payment System Committee (NPSC) took place. The meeting was chaired by the Chairwoman of this Committee, Ms. Luljeta Minxhozi, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania. The meeting was attended by members of the National Payment System Committee, the Chairman of the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) and the Chairman of the AAB Payment Systems Committee, representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Financial Supervisory Authority, General Taxes, National Information Society Agency (NAIS), World Bank and other international institutions, representatives of banks, non-bank financial institutions, representatives of national card payment scheme operators, and Bank of Albania staff.
The activity started with the speech of the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Mr.. Gent Sejko, and the Minister of Finance and Economy, Mrs. Anila Denaj.
The Chairman of the AAB, Mr. Silvio Pedrazzi in his speech supported the current developments and mentioned the contribution of the banking system in financial education issues, and stressed the necessity of implementing a National Strategy for Financial Education of the Public.
At the conclusion of the meeting, based on the discussions, the Committee Chair recommended the establishment of several working groups, with the aim of taking actions regarding financial education, government payments, and card payments in the Albanian market. The meeting ended with a special section where some of the latest initiatives in the payment market, were introduced.
The Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) was represented at this meeting by Mr. Silvio Pedrazzi, AAB Chairman and CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania and member of NCSP, Ms. Najada Xhaxha, Chairman of AAB Payments Committee and member of NCSP, and representatives of member banks.
