Manage your money, and cultivate your future!
The Albanian Bank Association (AAB), in co-operation with the Bank of Albania and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Sport and the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency (ADIA), on 20-26 March 2023, celebrated Money Week 2023, under the slogan “Manage your money, cultivate your future!”. During this week, the AAB, together with its associates and partners, is committed to organizing activities aimed at educating the younger generation to make healthy financial plans throughout their lives.
Over 3350 children from 150 schools across the country
Over 540 students from 9 universities
The opening ceremony of Money Week 2023 was organized at the Bank of Albania premises on 20 March 2023. The activity was welcomed by Mr. Gent Sejko, Governor of the Bank of Albania; Mrs. Evis Kushi, Minister of Education and Sport; and Mr. Bledar Shella, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Albanian Banking Association.
After the greeting speeches, the activity continued with the award-sharing ceremony for the winners of 5 competitions organized by the Bank of Albania and the Albanian Association of Banks on the occasion of Money Week and as previously announced.
- The “Best Drawing” competition, in which more than 350 drawings by third-grade students from more than 70 9-year-old schools from across Albania were presented for competition. The competition was supported by Union Bank.
- The “Best Project” competition, in which students from 46 IV classes from 38 schools in the country engaged in dealing with the subject in a physical or interpretative project, through a short video. The competition was supported by ABI Bank.
- The “Best Photomontage” competition, where 65 students, from 50 high schools in the country, unraveled the message of the theme of The Week of Money, through images and titles. The competition was supported by Credins Bank.
- The “Best Video” competition, in which 69 videos were presented, was conducted by 97 students from the country’s 47 high schools, the Competition was supported by OTP Bank Albania.
- Best essay competition with the theme “Climate change – why are they important for the financial sector in Albania?” 10 essays from 7 universities in the country were presented in this competition. Banka Kombëtare Tregtare, in addition to the symbolic prize won, offered internship opportunities to the winners of this competition.
Money Week is an opportunity for employees of banks to spread among children awareness about good financial habits. The Albanian Association of Banks organized several open lectures and visits to school, as part of financial education activities during the Week of Money.
On March 15,2023, Irida Huta, chairperson of the Committee on Payments, Cards, Digitization and Alternative Channels at AAB, held an open lecture with Students of Albania University, in the Finance – Bank and Business Management. Digital banking, the effect on the economy of lowering cash in circulation, as well as the way banks are moving towards a digital transformation of their products and services, were the issues addressed and discussed.
On March 23, 2023, Elona Bollano, chairperson of the Risk Committee was at the University of Tirana, Faculty of Economics. Risk Management in banks was the topic introduced.
On March 24, 2023, Xhilda Shehu, a member of the Payments, Cards, Digitalization, and Alternative Channels Committee, organized an open lecture at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (FSHN),) focused on digitization and trends in the banking sector.
On March 23, 2023, a financial literacy awareness lesson was offered for children at the 9-year-old school “Pandeli Cale”, Korça, by Spartak Mele, Senior Personal Banker (Raiffeisen Bank, Korca branch).
The participating students were greeted by Mr. Genci Mamani, General Director of the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency, Mrs. Ledja Bregu, Director of the Department of Payment, Accounting and Finance Systems at the Bank of Albania, and the AAB Secretary General, Mr. Spiro Brumbulli.
The winning team of the 2023 National Money Quiz is from the “Imelda Lambertini” school in Elbasan and consists of: Henri Terolli and Armi Tafa.
The winning team of the second place is from the “Sotir Gurra” school in Korca and consists of: Oresti Çela and Georg Qafzezi.
The third-place winning team is from the “Kongresi i Manastirit” school in Tirana and consists of students: Mario Ballo and Dart Ymeraj.
A special thanks to teachers Albin Malelli, Mitiana Trungu, and Donika Lici, who enabled the organization and preparation of the winning teams.
The winning team will compete representing Albania in the European Money Quiz, which will be held on 16 May 2023, in Brussels, Belgium. The winning teams will be rewarded by the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency and the Bank of Albania as previously announced, while Raiffeisen Bank will support the participation of the winning team in the European competition in Brussels.

Competitions, open lectures, visits, and meetings taking place these days in the premises of the Bank of Albania, banks, and educational institutions are part of financial education activities organized by the AAB and all partners.
On 20 March 2023, the opening ceremony of Money Week 2023 was organized at the Bank of Albania premises. The activity was welcomed by Mr. Gent Sejko, Governor of the Bank of Albania; Mrs. Evis Kushi, Minister of Education and Sport; and Mr. Bledar Shella, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Albanian Association of Banks.
In his welcoming speech, Governor Sejko expressed the importance that the Bank of Albania devotes to culture and financial inclusion, making it an integral part of its institutional duties. He cited work done in cooperation with the World Bank and all internal partners, for drafting the National Education and Financial Inclusion Strategy, which outlines the general principles and objectives of education and financial inclusion.
Minister Kushi once again stressed the importance of financial education, to form worthy citizens by equipping them with the right knowledge. Financial education is treated as a separate subject in curricula by enabling and putting into practice the knowledge received.
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Albanian Association of Banks, Mr. Shella, in his address brought to attention the involvement of the AAB and banks in joint initiatives and projects and expressed further support for any initiative that will contribute to improving knowledge of money and finances, as need dictates.

In addition to competitions and activities in educational institutions, another important activity is the Money Quiz, whose national final will be held on 30 March 2023, where the winners will be rewarded by the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency. Raiffeisen Bank will enable the participation of the winning Money Quiz team at the European competition in Brussels on 16 May 2023.
